Political Action Committee
Choose The Chamber for political action that gets
action.
The Greater Colorado Springs Chamber Political Action Committee (ChamberPAC)
ChamberPAC, the Chamber-sponsored political action committee, represents
a grassroots effort to elect positive, pro-business candidates to public
office and advocate on ballot issues and initiatives. The committee
identifies, endorses, and provides election support to qualified
candidates whose principals are consistent with those of business and
industry. It is the only political action organization representing the
overall business community in Southern Colorado. ChamberPAC operates
solely on the contributions of individuals and businesses who want to
ensure positive political leadership for the future. Although ChamberPAC
is affiliated with the Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce, its
funding is entirely separate.
The Role of the ChamberPAC
The Chamber's political action committee represents a grass-roots effort
to elect positive, pro-business candidates to public office. The
committee will identify, endorse, and support qualified candidates whose
principles are consistent with those of business and industry. It is the
only political action organization representing the overall business
community in Colorado Springs.
What's the source of its funding?
ChamberPAC operates solely on the contributions of individuals and
businesses in the Pikes Peak region... people like you, who want to
ensure positive political leadership for our future. Although ChamberPAC
is affiliated with the Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce, its
funding is separate. Your contribution is used solely to support
pro-business candidates.
How are candidates selected?
A representative committee of business men and women screens and
interviews candidates for possible endorsement by the Chamber.
Incumbents are rated, based on their voting records. Challengers,
incumbents, and candidates for open seats are rated on their philosophy
and their positions on key business issues. General criteria include:
support of the free enterprise system, fiscal responsibility, effective
leadership, personal integrity, and support of the goals of The Chamber
and the business community. Too often, good potential candidates exist
but choose not to run. ChamberPAC also seeks out and encourages
qualified candidates for office-and provides the financial support that
could make the difference.
Why should I participate?
Organized labor and other special interest groups have already
demonstrated how effective this kind of activity can be in accomplishing
their objectives. Their gains have often been at the expense of
business. Colorado Springs ChamberPAC will help mobilize the business
community for a stronger voice.
Who can contribute?
Business and individual contributions that are Chamber members can make
voluntary contributions to ChamberPAC. Your contribution could make the
difference.
I'm a business person…Why should I get involved in the political
process?
There's an old saying that if you're in business you're in politics. As
a taxpayer, and as an employer, you know that government regulations
represent a significant cost to you and your customers. Decisions are
being made every day in Washington, Denver, and with County and City
governments that affect your business... shouldn't you have a say in the
process? Your chamber of commerce or trade association may be very
effective in keeping elected officials informed on issues affecting your
business. Yet those associations will tell you that the business
perspective is better understood by those elected officials who already
have an appreciation for free enterprise. Finding pro-business
candidates and helping them win election to local state and federal
office is the best way to protect your investment.
